A Rad Year In Review

Of course the beginning of every new year has so many great things to look forward to: so many trails to be broken, adventures to plan, and road trips to take in the year ahead! But we've had a great 2016--stellar in fact--and we don't want to cruise into the new year without taking a look as some of the new and incredible ways we've grown in the past year.

So, we thought we'd share these interesting little facts about our year at Rad Dog Pet Products. What color did our customers like the most? How far did our products travel? And, what breed is our smallest customer? Read on to find out!

Back to School? No! Back to the Backcountry (with 15% off)!

Back-to-school? No! Let's make the most of what's left of summer and head back to the back-country instead!

To celebrate the last days of summer, Rad Dog is offering 15% off your entire dog gear order at www.myraddog.com. That means 15% off all the items perfect for a fall frolic down the trail.

What might you be able to do with all that rad gear for your dog? Well, there's the Rad Dog essentials, like the revolutionary Release 'N Run dog leash/collar in one; the only collar on the market with patented, retractable leash stowed right into the base of a collar. Take you dog for a hike with tons of off-leash freedom, then grab the stowed away leash when critters, other dogs, or leash laws require a little restraint.

For your fall travels, there's the handy food caddy, our Feed Bag, that holds up to six pounds of food (for dogs with big appetites), and folds down to get smaller as your food starts to deplete. It's also perfect for bringing to the dog sitter or kennel for fall adventures where there are no pups allowed.

We have all the gear to get you back to the back-country this fall. Get it at 15% off now through Labor Day using promo code "laborday16". Happy Trails (and tails!) Rad Dogs!

Enhance The Dog-Owner Experience

In the spring, you can change activities as quickly as the weather changes.  One minute, you are taking a leisurely mid-day stroll around the park, the next you are dodging a downpour while hiking.  You may even get a few sunny days on the beach, river, or lake.
Whatever the weather and wherever the geographic region, there's one thing we know about dog owners: if they are out adventuring, they want their dog alongside them. We call it the "dog owner experience." It's why no dog owner ever has to walk, hike, or adventure alone. It's an outing with your best friend.

To make sure nothing gets in the way of a dog and their owner venturing to the outdoors together, the owners of Rad Dog (Brian and Paula) developed the Release 'N Run dog leash (and collar) in one.  They felt that dog and owner adventures would be enhanced if the dog's gear was as ready to go as the dog itself.

Sick of fumbling around for gear and holding a dog leash during outdoor adventures, Paula and Brian developed a "grab-and-go" leash.

Have you been stuck searching for your leash, or left holding the leash once out on the trail?  Then consider the Release 'N Run dog leash and collar in one. It was developed to make a better outdoor dog owner experience, with these five advantages in mind:

leash collar in one
1. All the Gear You Need Right Where You Left Your Dog.

No more fumbling around for a leash, collar, or any other gear.  Everything you need is right where you left your dog, so adventures are as easy as calling out Fido's name and slipping out the front door.  In fact, your dog will probably be waiting on you, wondering why it takes so long to tie your shoes and fill up your water bottle.

grab and go leash
2. All the Function, Nothing Extra.

Rad Dog is gear for those who like to travel light.  So we created a leash and collar in one that provides everything you need to grab your dog and go, and nothing more.  No tricky clips. No leash adjustments. No heavy equipment. Just the simplicity of a collar with the function of 4-foot retractable leash to use whenever leash activities beckon.

3. Lightweight, But Surprising Strength.

Because we know our customers like to travel light, you can be sure we made our Release 'N Run as lightweight as possible--ounces in fact! But don't let that fool you into thinking this can't hold your big, rad dog!  The Release 'N Run, made with climbers webbing and Cordura® and Spectra® cord (one of the world's strongest and lightest fibers), is strong enough for use on dogs weighing up to 110 pounds. In addition, the internal retracting mechanism on our retractable collar/leash in one, is made for maximum strength and durability.  In fact, it was originally designed for the tethering of tools and weapons for the police and military.

4.  There When You Need It, Gone When You Don't.

When out on walk, run, or ride, who wants to be stuck holding the leash? What do you do with it once your dog is free to wander?  Well, you can tie it around your waist, or train your dog to hold it in its mouth, OR...you can simply let go and let the leash on the Release 'N Run retract back into the dog's collar.  Once fully retracted, the sleeve covers retracting mechanism and handle, so your dog is free to roam without getting caught up. So it's a collar most of the time, and leash when you need it.

5. Ready in a Flash.

Outings with your dog should be as spontaneous and hassle-free as possible.  What's better than an impromptu jump out of the car to explore or a last-minute stroll around the block?  With the Release 'N Run, your dog is always prepared in a flash for the next great adventure.

Likewise, once out on your adventure, your dog can go from meandering to under leash control in seconds.

Many great adventures are unplanned. You and your dog can be ready to take on the next great spontaneous adventure with the Release 'N Run collar and dog leash in one. There's no need to plan ahead, with the Release 'N Run dog collar, everything you need is right where you left your dog.

Rad Dog Review on Summer Must Have Products Segment

We are so excited that TWO, yes, TWO Rad Dog products were featured on the Ozarks Local Live at 4 News in their segment "Florida/Summer Must Have Products."

We were excited to hear some of the positive things they had to say about the Rad Dog Release 'N Run dog leash/collar combination, and the Pocket Bowl foldable dog bowl, such as:

"You are ready to go on a walk wherever you go."

"When the dog wants to do something by itself, you can let go of the leash."

"You know what's cool about that too? Jet does not like a leash. So, if this was already on her, we don't have to chase her down to put a leash on."
It's so great to see that consumers and reviewers understand just why we invented these dog products!

Found dog- How to find your dogs if they get lost.

Today I was on a great run in the Chuckanuts here in Bellingham, and towards the end of the run my running partner, Hilary, and I found a dog just wandering around. We ran past him, and as we looked back he was following us; we urged him to go back, but he kept following. We backtracked a bit, but there was no one around. We also stood still for awhile, hoping he'd catch a scent of his owners and go find them. Yet, he followed us all the way to the car. There was no one to be found in the lot, and when I put the tailgate down, he immediately hopped into the bed of the truck. We called the humane society to see if someone had reported a losing a dog, but they were closed and their message said to call 911 on the weekends. 911 contacted the person on call from the humane society and sent someone over to pick the dog up. We hope that his owner gets in touch with them, soon!

So what should you do if you lose your dog or find a dog?
  1. Before your dog is ever lost make sure that he/she has ID tags; this dog had tags but the name and number were worn off and not legible.
  2. Consider getting your dog "chipped." Then if your dog loses their tags, or for whatever reason they were not wearing them, the humane society will know right away who the dog belongs to.
  3. If your dog is lost, call the humane society and/or animal control ASAP.
  4. Tell people in the area that you lost your dog and ask them if they have seen him/her.
  5. Place an ad on craigslist. Many people check there to see if someone may have lost a dog.
  6. Place signs with a photo up around the area where they became lost and maybe also post signs around the city.
  7. If you lost your dog in a neighborhood or city, tell the local postal, FedEx, and UPS person that you lost your dog.
  8. Let all of your friends know, maybe they know someone that knows someone...
  9. Place an ad in the paper or call the local radio station or news station and see if they can help.
  10. Go back with friends to where you lost the dog and search the area. Bring a toy that they like, especially one that makes noise.
  11. Last but not least, don't give up; often it takes time. And, some dogs eventually find their own way home.
This is not an exhaustive list. There are many different ways to find or return a lost dog, but these are just a few ideas to get you headed in the right direction. If you have additional ways to help others locate or return a lost dog, please let everyone know.

A Day at Stevens Pass With the Avalanche Dogs

Spent a great afternoon up at Stevens Pass with 15+ avalanche dogs and their ski patrol owners. Stevens Pass Ski Patrol flew in from Switzerland two highly skilled avalanche dog experts and hosted a week long avalanche clinic for resorts around the west. There were over 15 dogs and owners in attendance running through drills and all the various skills that make for a great search dog and owner. They worked with the two Swiss instructors and further advanced there skills and knowledge about how to best search for avalanche victims. I also to meet Corey the and his dog Niva, the two that originally contacted us about our new product the Release N Run.

This picture is of the attendees, which made the trip from all over the west. We were happy to be there and meet these great life saving dogs and people. We were able to hand out gear to all the attendees that came form such places as, Mt Bachelor, Alpine Meadows, Solitude, Sundance, Alyeska, Mt Hood, Heavenly, Sierra at Tahoe, as well as some local Search and rescue groups with the WA state DOT and King County SAR. We are happy to have the gear on these dogs and hope they can put the gear to great use.

Here is Osso and Niva playing around in the snow after the class was over. It sounds like the dogs had a great week and all the attendees were very impressed with the information they received. Thanks for inviting me up to witness the class, meet the owners and their dogs and pass some new gear. What a great!

Rad Dog at Ski to Seabrian rad dog employee at ski2sea

Myraddog Team member Brian Dagnon starts the first leg of the Ski to Sea at Mt Baker. It was a beautiful day at the mountain with temps in the 60's and the skies as Blue as the Blue Bird day Release N Run, Retractable leash. Over 400 teams competed in this years race. It was pandemonium from the start with a steep climb right off the bat forcing everyone that wasn't in the first or second row to wait to make a move until after climbing the hill and rounding the corner for the downhill. After the hill it opened up and passing was possible. The rest of the course was sweet with lots of turns and tons of little rollers. Brian finished 11 in his division making the hand off to teammate Mike Hogan who made it to the top of the hill on the uphill hike and then killed it on the ski down. The rest of the team did a great job too, allowing the portly crew to finish in the middle of the pack. It was a great race and a great day to be outside with your best buddy sporting the Release N Run collar, check us out at myraddog.com and hook your dog up with some of our RAD gear!
